If
you’ve ever thought music concerts are boring,
you’ve never seen the Tomato
Soup Band perform!
Based in London, Ontario, Canada, the Tomato Soup Band was
formed back in 1992 by a few members of London’s Dutch-Canadian Society.
The Band's unique style and happy and spirited repertoire
have contributed to the band’s growth from
five members to now include more than twenty enthusiastic musicians.
The Tomato Soup Band travels throughout Ontario to play in parades,
fairs and festivals. They have entertained seniors in Nursing and Retirement
Homes, young patients in the Children's Hospital, and veterans in Legion Halls.
They have appeared in other provinces, in the United States, and in Europe.
Tomato Soup Band members enjoy themselves thoroughly. Their
smiles, enthusiasm and spontaneity are contagious.
The Tomato Soup Band welcomes new members. The background and
ages of our members are quite diverse.
Potential members may find it useful to
know the following:
Instrumentation includes people that play clarinet, saxophone, trumpet/cornet, flugelhorn,
baritone, trombone, tuba/sousaphone, percussion and more. The band welcomes additional
players on these and other instruments. Members usually provide their own
instruments. Levels of musical ability and experience of our members vary from
novice to advanced. Ability in sight-reading is not essential but it is helpful
for members to be familiar with written music. The band rehearses for ninety
minutes once per week.
The band performs about 20 times each year. While we
recognize that all members will not be able to attend every rehearsal or
performance, it is expected that all members will try to get to most of them.
There is no membership fee.
Members are not paid for performances, but refreshments are provided.
Potential members are welcome to "sit in" on a
number of rehearsals before making a decision to join. While there are no
auditions, final acceptance into the band is subject to the consent of the
members. If you have questions about music or membership, please contact the band president, Martin Van Der Mark at (519) 434-3595.
The Tomato Soup Band is a not-for-profit organization and
band members are not paid. To cover expenses the band typically has a modest
fee for most performances.
We would like to be part of your special event.
